Track Led By Four National Champions At NCCAA Indoor Nationals
The Bethel College Track and Field program performed very well at the NCCAA Indoor Nationals held at Taylor University on Saturday, paced by 4 National Champions. Senior Geoffrey King was a 2—event national champion, finishing first in both the 55m sprint in a time of 6.43, and in the 200m dash in a time of 22.28. Junior Rod Waters was a national champion in the 55m hurdles with a time of 7.44. And Junior Chris Warhop earned national champion honors in the long jump with a leap of 22’6”. King, Waters, and Warhop all earned All—American honors for their performances.
Joining the trio as NCCAA All—Americans were Freshman Alex Walsh, national runner—up in the triple jump with a mark of 41’11”, Junior Zach Burrington, national runner—up in the pole vault clearing 16’0”, and the Pilot 4x400m relay team of King, Waters, Sophomore Vincent Reel, and Freshman Jontae Randolph with a national runner—up time of 3:26.
Also earning NCCAA All—American recognition were Warhop in the 200m dash with a third place time of 23.14, and the Bethel 4x800m relay team of David Prieb, Scott Robinson, Ben Collard, and Ryan Waybright with a third place time of 8:14. Overall, the Bethel men’s track team placed 5th at the NCCAA Indoor National Meet with 9 All—American places.
On the women’s side, Bethel was led by a pair of national runner—ups: Freshman Caitlyn Gager in the pole vault clearing 11’7”, and Freshman Jessie Spearman in the 55m sprint with a time of 7.41. Joining Gager and Spearman as NCCAA All—Americans were Freshman pole vaulter Ann O’Keefe clearing 10’10”, Freshman Holly Farrer in the shot put with a mark of 36’6”, and Junior Kate Bishop in the 200m dash with a time of 26.12. Overall, the Pilot women’s track team placed 6th at the NCCAA Indoor National Meet with 5 All—Americans.
